Tarmac Driveway After Care Tips in Ilkeston

If you treat it well, a tarmac driveway can last many years. We don’t intend to sound too directive, but these tips are a must-have to help protect your investment.

1 - You shouldn't drive on newly laid tarmac for at most 2-3 days.

If it is warm outside, you can leave it for longer before driving on it. For any questions on tarmac driveways or paths, give us an ring.

Noting that your driveway is most susceptible to damage during the first year will help you understand why. As it ages the tarmac will begin to harden and turn gray.

2 – Driveway manoeuvres

Always keep your eyes on the road before you reach for the steering wheel.

Scuff marks will form on the surface if you turn the wheel while the vehicle remains stationary. The potential for serious damage is possible if the scuff marks are not removed.

3 – Avoid 'point loads', or spread the pressure.

Point loads are objects that exert undued pressure on a single spot. This is something like the motorbike stand, which removes the pressure from the tyres but then puts them through the small area of the metal foot. Others point loads include ladders and feet on caravans.

If this is not possible, you can place a board or stand under your feet to distribute the pressure and spread the load.

4 – Clean up all spills immediately

You can damage the driveway’s tarmac surface by using oil or detergent. No matter how large or small the spillage may be, don’t forget to clean it up.

Take out any excess liquid as soon as possible – sawdust or cat litter work well, and can easily be disposed off through household waste.

Make sure to clean up any leftovers with a mixture water-based washing detergent.
