If you treat it well, a tarmac driveway can last many years. These tips will help you protect your investment.
1 - Do not drive on newly laid asphalt for at least 2 days.

Noting that your driveway is most susceptible to damage during the first year will help you understand why. As it ages, the tarmac will become harder and more grey.
2 - Driveway manoeuvres.
Before you turn the steering wheel, be always on the move.
Scuff marks can be caused by turning the wheel when the vehicle is stationary. If you continue to leave scuff marks in one spot, there’s a chance of serious damage.
3 - Do not use 'point loads', or spread the pressure.
Point loads are items that put undue pressure in one spot. For example, a motorbike stand which relieves the tyre pressure but places it through a small metal foot. Point loads could also include the feet of ladders or caravans.
If this is not possible, you can place a board or stand under your feet to distribute the pressure and spread the load.
4 - Clean up all spills immediately.
Your new tarmac driveway can be damaged by oil and detergent. Please don’t leave any spillage, no matter how small or large.
You should immediately soak up any liquid – dry sand, cat litter and sawdust all work well. They can also be disposed of easily through household waste.
You can soak any residue with water and wash it off.
